imperial guard bridge layer

imperial guard bridge layer

this is the accompanying bridge layer i did to support my tank company this with my ARV helped to form my support section for my Armour

the main thing i used for this conversion was a space marine whirlwind kit with a leman russ  plasticard and wood from the garden center yup folks the bridge does fold out and is made of wood and corigaded card sourced from any art supply shop

i only issued the tank with 1 heavy bolter for protection
as its combat support not for leading the charge

the bridge extends out to 18 inches

after a little clearing out i took time to take some photos of a conversion i did for an ARV (Armoured Recovery Vehicle) to be honest i did these for my tank company and for the sheer pleasure of attempting a new project

small details that made fun doing this project
( drilling out the muzzle break on the heavy bolter and the barrel too)
using land speeder parts for the gun rest vision blocks and light
using a ork buggy for the engine in the rear

panzergrenadiers bolt action

panzergrenadiers bolt action

Having took a small break from my flames of war ss to have a crack at some bolt action thats been sitting on my projects table for some time now

i started with my support teams for my panzergrenadiers mg42 and mortar team

i haven't flocked the bases yet as i haven't chosen the final finish for this army

then moved on to my LMG teams at this point i chose to include a Blacktree miniature as i had this for years and hadn't painted it up and painting this pose was brilliant it came out nice

Blacktree Lmg

i used a 40k 40mm round base to give the team a solid base and to make life easy when moving them

flames of war sherman platoon

sherman platoon

these have been burning to be painted since they arrived and i finally got down to starting the base coating these are from battlefront and are resin cast models so after a little assembling and base coating i sat down to begin base coated 893 us dark green over a black undercoat i then mixed in some flames of war grey green to ad the highlight

i then started to pick out some of the stowage and the tracks in chocolate brown and then highlight lighter parts of the stowage

waffen ss pak 40

waffen ss pak 40

this is one of my painting projects for my waffen ss army i am desperately short on anti tank capability so as the germans did i am pressing into service every thing i have

atm i own only 1 pak 40 not even enough for a platoon but it gives me a start

i have used a few old matches to build up a defencive position and am planning to bulk this out with some pva glue before sanding it and then spraying the model black

i then started to build up the emplacement by adding 2 layers of pva glue over some broken match sticks the reason i do this is that it still pols but layers can be added in a natural looking dirt pile so once sand is added it gives the impression of just having been dumped there

i found some time to sit down and get started on the painting pak 40

i got a little carried away painting and forgot to get photos of each stage but i do have the finished shots just got a little detailing to do

flames of war 17th waffen ss engagement record

flames of war 17th waffen ss engagement record

with my army finally reaching completement i thought i would start a running score on how my army had done in game

game 1. opponent british infantry company
this was my first game of flames  of war and my opponent knew this so we played for fun and to educate me on the rules rab from stirling wargames club was an outstanding opponent helping me fuddle my way through the game though i lacked anti tank capability he engaged and gave a great game still had me buzzing about it 2 weeks after the game
result german victory (by a slim margin)

game 2 opponent british airborne company
this was truly a baptism of fire game my opponent dug in entrenching veterans and maneuvering almost through my centre wiping out a platoon and a battery holding the area, crucial mistakes were made by me, mainly me forgetting that in flames of war you can move your mg42 teams and reduce their rate of fire from 6 to 2 but forgetting what game i was playing i forgot i could move and shoot so sat in a smoke screen for 3 turns truly an epic fail
result british victory

game 3 opponent british armoured company
oh my god the horror as i see my opponent unpack tank after tank now for those who have read my growing army list you will already know the one thing i lack is anti tank firepower i had to rely on infantry with panzerfausts and panzerschrecks so my infantry dug into the buildings dominating the centre of the table and waited to let him get close victory was achieved by deploying the wife card 1 turn from seizing the final objective
result german victory (by slim margin and deploying the wife card)

flames of war SS company HQ

flames of war
 company HQ

The company HQ has been sitting on my painting desk since i started to get back into modeling and well i needed to get them painted so to keep in the spirit of the SS infantry company i sat down tonight to complete the HQ unit

from the rear
the anti tank teams

as i was reading the list for the HQ i realised i was allowed to take upto 3 sniper teams as part of my force so i opted for 2 sniper teams
